The Direct User Function is mainly use in Iceberg to control User Interface (UI) and workflow.

Generally, this is used in the middle of a workflow/process, to send a message to the user after they click a button or performed a particular task. Also, the Direct User function will send the user to the next part of the workflow.

A good example is, in the middle of a wizard, every time a user clicks next, you want to show them a different form to move them through the process. And when a user is done , you can send a user some sort of a message, say for example, thanking them for going through the wizard. You use Direct User for that.

Using the Direct User function is easy. These illustrations will show a user how to use this powerful Iceberg function.

1.  First, select the Direct User icon among the list of Iceberg’s Process Flow. You can see that icon on the upper-left corner of the highlighted box below.

2.  After clicking on the Direct User icon, the Direct User box should come up.

3.  For example, we would like to send a user to the form title, “Red tag”. We simply type a Description for the process. See image below.

4.  Since we want to send a user to the “Red Tags”, we need to select the same form on the drop-down menu under Tab on the properties window.

 5.  On the drop-down menu under Form, select our target form again which is “Red Tags”.

6.  Do the same for the Record properties. The record is a list of the current live business objects that are available in this scope.

7.  Leave Category and View for now. The View property will come in handy if you want a user to be sent back to another view after finishing a transaction. Say for example, a user has completed a transaction and you would like to send the same user to a list of other leads, you can just set to View to something like “Red Tag” or any other lead available on the drop-down menu for View.Picture7-edited.jpg

8.  The Message area here is a very powerful part of Direct User. Here you can send messages to a user. You can even make the same expression (variable replacement) available on the user’s expression list.

For more information about expression, please do look for this on the www.learniceberg.com under process flow.

For example purposes, check below:

9.  After putting in your message and variable, simply click on Apply button.Picture9-edited.jpg

10.  When a user reaches this particular step on the process, such a user will be directed to the “Send user to tag” process.

11.  Another use for the Direct User function is to literally allow a user to see the user-based decisions coming up next in the workflow. By simply clicking on the Pencil icon shown on the image below, you can add a Direct User sending the customer to the form that such a user needs to see for that particular decision. This is so to guaranty that the user goes there in the middle of the work flow.

It should pull-up the Define Decision box where you can add the Direct User to send the customer to the appropriate form that such a user needs to see.
